Native American Heritage Month

Plus One Foundation helps mark November as Native American Heritage Month. The month is an opportunity to reflect on the history and accomplishments of our continent’s Indigenous people.

Signed into law in 1990 by President George H. W. Bush, the monthlong event honors and celebrates the tribal nations with observances across the country.

Seattle is named for a hereditary chief of the Suquamish and Duwamish people, and many of our communities and landscape features have Native American names. A cultural revival is taking place in Native communities such as Seattle based on renewing traditions as canoe carving, preparation of traditional foods, and the revitalization of Lushootseed as a spoken language.

Plus One Foundation is honored to celebrate the contributions of Native Americans in our region.
